Week 18-20 in Finland

So these weeks have been very interesting ones indeed. It’s the start of a new year, many of the past semester’s students are gone now, but I’ve already started to meet some new cool people. I also have new courses, one in GPU programming and one in data analytics software. I’m also attending a course in Finnish so hopefully, I’ll be able to do some small talk in Finnish before finishing my studies. For me, these first weeks have been fun but at the same time, it’s been filled with a rollercoaster of feelings. It’s starting to stabilize now and…

8th – 10th week in Finland

So this has been 3 long weeks, and even though I thought that I should have more time to write, the last 3 weeks have been even more intense than I could have imagined. It has happened so much and it is thus first now that I even find some time to write it all down. The 8th week was a super intense study week, almost every day I did nothing but study all the time. I finalized reports and worked on projects before their deadline. Unfortunately I also became sick just before this week and the long days and…

7th week in Finland

This week has mostly been about studying and getting better from some kind of a cough that I’ve managed to get. There are deadlines on big projects coming up and I’ve so far been tirelessly been working to get it all done. So far I think I’ve been doing good but there’s still stuff left to do even for week 8, so not until after the projects have been finalized much will happen. The only exception this week has been the Finland sitz which was really great. There was a lot of singing and talking and games and drinking and…

6th week in Finland

It’s now the 6th week in Finland and suddenly I can really feel that the autumn has come. It’s beginning to get colder in general, the leaves have shifted color and started to fall, and everyone seems to be increasingly more busy with university assignments and exam preparations. During this week the tempo has in many ways felt like it’s slowing down just a bit. I’ve been mostly at work with different studies but have also been able to pay for a Finnish sitz, discussed details about the thesis work in Jokojo and been to a Fantasy sitz at Nyl√§ndska…

3rd week in Finland

So this week I feel like I’ve started to really get the feeling of that I’m actually living here. It has been progressing slowly but now I can find my way around in the city quite easily using different landmarks. I barely need the map anymore for finding the regular places, only when trying to find some new building or spot where I’ve not been much or ever before. I think this sense of localization is due to that I’m walking almost everywhere I’m going. I don’t really feel the need to take the bus since most places I’m going…

2nd week in Finland

This week started out with me getting sick, it was not too bad but I coughed for several days and I didn’t attend any parties for this period. But my classes started and since I didn’t want to miss the first lectures I went to them anyway. The courses feel like they’re going to be very interesting. Right now I’m taking 3 different courses, one called the development of server-side web services, in which we’ll among other things use python and Django to create a basic eBay-clone. One called experimentation in computer science and engineering, in which we’ll learn how…

Walk at red rock

Today was a calm day at my parent’s house which started with a great Easter brunch. There were¬†herring, egg and cheese sandwiches and other things you’d expect in an easter meal. After brunch, we decided to take a walk at red rock. This is a place in Gothenburg that is famous for its red rock, which might not feel like much of a surprise. During the walk, I found some quite interesting things to take photos of, and I only took one picture of the red rock. During the trip, we also went by car through different areas in Gothenburg.…
