I think that sports anime is a genre of anime that isn’t really getting it’s deserved the amount of hype. Unlike series such as Naruto, One Piece, One Punch Man and many others there doesn’t seem to be a lot of visible fans to the many awesome sports animes out there, or at least that I’m aware of. I wouldn’t really consider myself a huge otaku person and I’ve probably only seen a 30 or so animes in total (including both series and movies). But I would say that I’m the kind of person that really enjoy a good anime and if I were to list all of my favorites many of the sports anime would have a really high position.
So in this blog post, I’ll recommend the seven following sports anime:
- Prince of Tennis
- Kuroko’s Basket
- Ping Pong The Animation
- Yowamushi Pedal
These are all really great animes and it’s hard to pick a favorite. But if I really had to decide one which I liked more than the others I’d have to go with Kuroko’s Basket. That being said I think that all of these are worth to see!
Prince of Tennis
In this anime, we get to follow the story about Ryouma which is a prodigy tennis player.
In Kuroko’s Basket, you’ll follow the story of Kuroko but also about the different team members of Seirin and the generation of Miracles. In this series, the sense of teamwork is very strong and there are many personalities that are allowed to shine during all of the show.
Haikyuu!! is about two very different prodigies playing volleyball. But it’s also about the team and the growth of the team.
Free! is about the five friends with Haruka being one of the prodigies, he doesn’t seem to want to race but as the future after high school approaches, he might need to reconsider if he wants to keep doing what he loves, to swim.
Ping Pong the Animation
Ping Pong the Animation might seem strangely animated to some, but for me, it really worked and I liked the style a lot. The story and character development is top class in this anime and I recommend watching it twice since you’ll see things you didn’t see the first time if you do. This is a really great anime.
An anime in which the main protagonist is an otaku named Onoda. But his 5 teammates are of equal importance. The series includes many cool moments and the main antagonist which made the series really enjoyable to watch.
This series is a beautifully drawn anime which is about two guys playing baseball. One which wants to be the best catcher and one who wants to be the best pitcher. Together they form a great duo.
So these were my picks and some of the sports anime that I’ve really enjoyed watching. Please comment what you thought of them if you decided to give any of them a try or if you’ve already watched any of them. Do you agree with my list or is there an anime missing? If that’s the case I think you should comment as well and tell me more about it!
Hope your day is well.
